Meals and Dining


The meals listed below will be available during the Science Olympiad National Tournament. Teams are strongly encouraged to pre-purchase all meals through the online team registration process and then the appropriate meal tickets will be provided during onsite team registration on Thursday, May 29 and Friday, May 30. Onsite purchase of these meals may be available on a space-available basis, but this is not guaranteed, so please plan accordingly.

All menus include vegetarian selections, although if there are other dietary needs for which we should accommodate, please indicate this as part of the online team registration process.

Kick-off Celebration BBQ Dinner

Celebrate the official kick-off of the 2008 National Tournament with a dinner in the heart of GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus and only two blocks away from the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center, the site of the Opening Ceremony. The BBQ buffet dinner includes grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and vegetable burgers, southern-style baked beans, potato chips, assorted cookies, and assorted beverages. Cost is $10.00 per person.

Breakfast

1st Floor
Start your day off right with a hot breakfast buffet featuring scrambled eggs, turkey sausage patties, breakfast potato patties, french toast sticks, whole fresh fruit, granola bars, and coffee and assorted juices. Cost is $10.00 per person.

Boxed Lunches

Saturday, May 31
11 a.m.-2 p.m.

University Yard
(rain location: Marvin Center 1st Floor)
Take a break from the competition to enjoy a boxed lunch. Selections include turkey breast on a kaiser roll, ham and swiss cheese on rye bread, roast beef on whole wheat bread, and grilled vegetables on a kaiser roll. All sandwiches include potato chips, macaroni salad, and a cookie as well as a choice of assorted beverages. Cost is $10.50 per person.

Team Dinners

Saturday, May 31
4:15-7 p.m.

(two seatings)
* Various campus locations

Join with your team members to celebrate your success during an Italian buffet dinner featuring caesar salad, chicken scallopini, baked vegetarian penne pasta with roasted vegetables, seasoned italian green beans, italian bread with butter, assorted sheet cakes, and assorted beverages. Cost is $18.00 per person.

There is no expected or required dress code for the Team Dinners.
While some schools do get quite "dressed up" for this event, others do not. It's really up to how your school wishes to be represented there.

* Teams will be assigned a specific seating time and location that will be included on the meal tickets provided at onsite team registration.

Other Meals


Meals beyond those referenced above will not be specifically provided (ie. there will be no meal plan available). Given GW's urban location, there are a number of venues that are within easy walking distance of our Foggy Bottom Campus, not to mention those in other parts of the city that are easily accessible via Metrorail and Metrobus.
