Media Tool Kit for Teams

Dear Science Olympiad Coaches and Teams,

Here is a media tool kit that includes a template press release for you to announce that your team has earned a spot in the 2008 Science Olympiad National Tournament at The George Washington University. You will want to to insert your team’s information before sending this press release out to your local and regional newspapers. Here are some simple instructions:

:: Download the press release template and look for these [BRACKETS]. Insert your information.

:: Talk with your public relations or communications contact at your school before sending the press release to the newspapers. They will either know exactly who to send it to, or they will want to make sure the right person from their office is listed as a contact.

:: Ask your public relations contact to send the press release to the papers since they have the relationships with the education editors and reporters.

:: If you do not have a public relations or communications resource to work with, all you need to do is call the paper, ask for the education or metro editor.

:: Make sure you get the person’s e-mail address and phone number. After you
e-mail it, you will want to call to confirm receipt of the press release.
